Buying from Black-owned, sustainable businesses means you're doing good for the planet while empowering the Black community. Here are 10 of our favorite businesses you should support year-round.   

1. BLK + GRN  

BLK + GRN is an online, all-natural marketplace powered by Black women Artisans. They stock a variety of self-care products, from skincare to haircare to home goods. All the products found at BLK + GRN are sustainably made, plant-based, cruelty-free, and don't include any of what they call the "toxic twenty."

2. Yam  

Yam is a made-to-order jewelry brand based in New York. Their pieces are made using upcycled materials and metals, and orders are shipped in biodegradable or recycled packaging. They sell earrings, necklaces, rings, and more.  

3. OUI The People 

OUI The People sells sustainable shaving essentials. Their sensitive skin razor is reusable using recyclable blades, helping put an end to the estimated 2 billion plastic razors that end up in landfills each year. Their other products are packaged sustainably and thoughtfully designed with the planet in mind.

4. Bôhten 

Bôhten sells African-inspired prescription eyewear. Based in Africa they source sustainably harvested materials and partner with local organizations to run tree planting programs in Ghana and Kenya to combat deforestation. They are also working to minimize their carbon footprint across the entire supply chain. 

5. Taylor Jay  

Taylor Jay sells comfortable and versatile sustainable fashion basics for all shapes and sizes. They partner with an ethically sourced, fair labor factory to produce sustainable pieces made from eco-friendly textiles. They also recycle and upcycle threads and use environmentally safe tints.  

6. Trade Street Jam Co  

Trade Street Jam Co makes fruit forward jams with fresh flavor combinations, from smoked peach to blueberry lemon basil. All of their jams are vegan, small-batch, locally sourced, and use zero preservatives. They are also packaged in sustainable glass jars.   

7. Goodee  

Goodee is an online marketplace offering an abundance of home and lifestyle goods, from furniture to wall décor and books. Each product is vetted by an in-house sustainability team to make sure it is transparently sourced, ethically made, and designed to last. Goodee is a certified B Corporation, climate neutral certified, and is a 1% for the Planet member.

8. Linoto  

Linoto sells 100% linen sheets, napkins, towels, and more. Linen is one of the most sustainable materials in the world as it is biodegradable and exceptionally durable. In addition to using linen, Linoto has a zero waste program creating face masks, linen coasters, and more using fabric scraps from the production line.  

9. Jade Swim  

Jade Swim sells swimsuits made from ECONYL, a 100% regenerated nylon fabric made from recycled fishing nets, plastic bottles, and fabric scraps. They use conscious production practices by upcycling fabrics, cut CO2 emissions, consistently ensuring quality and safety standards, and use all biodegradable packaging. 10. Plant Apothecary  

Plant Apothecary sells a variety of body and skincare products. All of their products use both sustainable formulas and packaging while keeping a low-impact product lifecycle. They are certified climate-neutral and are a 1% for the planet partner.
